Organizing Scrap Yarn

I love knitting and crocheting.
Since I have been crocheting since I was nine years old and knitting soon after that, I have accumulated a good stash of hooks and needles over the years. I have a good storage system for me to find the tool I need for the project I am working on. I can't say the same for my yarn.

I have a real good stash going on and it is all over my house. Trying to find a way to contain my stash, I was looking through Pinterest and found a storage system using the cardboard from toilet paper rolls. Since my dogs love playing with those I didn't want them to get one with yarn wound on it. That would be a bigger mess than my yarn is in now.

Thinking about this system, I thought instead of using toilet paper rollers, using PVC pipe. I had some left over from a gardening project I thought I would use. I used 1" pipes and cut them into 5"
lengths.

It took some time but, I cut several 5" lengths of the PVC pipe.

Now the fun began. I sat and wound scraps of yarn on each one of the PVC pieces until I no longer had a blob of yarn.
I'm sure it would be a lot prettier if I painted the pipes, maybe next time.
Now whenever I need some scrap yarn for my projects it will be easy to get to.
I thought since the original storage system I saw on Pinterest was toilet paper rollers I could use a toilet paper stand when I am using the scrap yarn.

What do you think??

This is all I needed for this project
Tape Measure
Sharpie
PVC pipe cutter

The pipe cutter can be purchased at any Home Improvement store.
I had 1" PVC from a previous project.
The toilet paper stand I purchased from Walmart for less than $15.
